St George's Church has stood in the heart of Amersfoort for more than six centuries. From Catholic parish church to Protestant monument — the building has witnessed everything the city had to offer. A stone witness of the city.
The church was built in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, in phases you can still read from the brickwork. The Gothic vaults and tall windows give the interior a timeless grandeur.
In 1580 the church was transferred to the Protestants. The Catholic statues were removed, the walls whitewashed. Only during a twentieth-century restoration did the medieval frescoes come to light again.
