Sleeping in Amersfoort

In Amersfoort, Carla Kogelman takes an intimate look at how people sleep — close up, personal, and different for everyone.

For photographer Carla Kogelman, sleep is the most intimate moment of the day. With that thought in mind, she created the photo series Slapen in 033, initially for Kunsthal KAdE. The series is now part of the Museum Amersfoort collection.

The series shows residents of Amersfoort in various ways of sleeping. Because everyone sleeps, but it looks different for everyone. Sally & Kees, for instance, can only sleep together with a sleep apnoea device. Cees & Monica, on the other hand, sleep outside on their balcony.
