Sadik Kwaish Alfraji: Baghdad – Amersfoort

Iraqi-Amersfoort artist Sadik Kwaish Alfraji exhibited in Amersfoort. Museum Flehite showed graphic work from the 1980s — more than 100 etchings, woodcuts, drawings and paintings that deal with, among other things, the war between Iraq and Iran, as well as themes such as love and freedom. The exhibition ran alongside the Duo Exhibition of Natasja Kensmil & Sadik Kwaish Alfraji at Kunsthal KAdE (25.09.2021 – 09.01.2022).

About Sadik Kwaish Alfraji

Sadik Kwaish Alfraji has lived in Amersfoort since the 1990s. In his work, he zooms in on his own migration history as well as that of his family, and reflects on Baghdad, where he comes from. His forms of expression include animations, videos, installations, paintings, drawings, sculptures and photography. Memories are a powerful driving force for him in reflecting on his personal history. 'For me, art begins with an idea, an image, a memory, a social or political event, an ordinary everyday scene or an emotion,' says the artist.

Etchings and drawings from the 1980s at Museum Flehite

Museum Flehite showed the etchings and drawings that Alfraji made in Iraq in the 1980s, in which he lays bare the violent conflict with neighbouring Iran. The figurative style the artist used was, at the time, in the Iraq of Saddam Hussein, too confrontational to show.
