City Views
With the exhibition 'Stadsbeelden', Museum Flehite introduces us to the work of eight contemporary artists who explore and capture the theme of 'city'. The exhibition presents work by Iwan Baan, Stefan Bleekrode, Frank Halmans, Carlijn Kingma, Uwe Poth, Frank van der Salm, Rob Voerman and Hans Wilschut. In collaboration with Kunsthal KAdE, eight contemporary Dutch artists were selected who each explore and capture the theme of 'city' in drawings, paintings, photographs and 3D objects. It is the museum's first exhibition following a major renovation.
Stefan Bleekrode
Stefan Bleekrode (Eindhoven, 1986) is self-taught. He finds inspiration for his pen-and-ink drawings and watercolours during long walks through cities in Europe and North America. Back home, a drawing emerges from memory. The drawing New York, New York, on display at Museum Flehite, captures his fascination for architecture, urban planning, light and perspective.
Rob Voerman
Architecture plays a prominent role in the work of Rob Voerman (Deventer, 1966). His work encompasses graphic art, sculpture, painting, photography and installation art. Voerman's work is part of many collections including MoMA, the Hammer Museum and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.
Uwe Poth
Travel is an important theme in the work of Uwe Poth (Kiel, 1946). In his paintings and drawings, you encounter elements of past and present and a sense of cultural layering.
Carlijn Kingma
Carlijn Kingma (Zutphen, 1991), cartographer of worlds of thought, uses architecture as a medium to tell stories about human ambitions, socio-political histories and possible future scenarios.
Hans Wilschut
Hans Wilschut (Ridderkerk, 1966) focuses on the city as an architectural and social space. At Museum Flehite, he presents recent monumental works made in the metropolis of Sao Paulo.
Iwan Baan
Iwan Baan (Alkmaar, 1975) is one of the most sought-after architectural photographers of the moment, known for his documentary approach and distinctive aerial photographs.
Frank van der Salm
Frank van der Salm (Delft, 1964) works as an independent artist within the urban landscape, focusing on globalisation, politics and economics and the contemporary metropolis.
Frank Halmans
The work of Frank Halmans (Heerlen, 1963) takes place in the borderland between waking and sleeping. Many of his works feature everyday objects that take on human characteristics and seem animated by a will of their own.
