Museum Amersfoort

Primary Education

Interactive lessons on art, history and heritage of Amersfoort. Bring the past to life and let students explore the city by doing, seeing and experiencing.

Learning by experiencing

At Museum Amersfoort, students dive into the stories of the city. They examine real objects, ask questions and discover how the past resonates in their own lives. History becomes tangible and personal.

Our lesson programmes connect to different historical periods and core learning goals. They replace (part of) regular lessons and offer a varied and inspiring learning experience — both in the museum and in the classroom.

Why choose Museum Amersfoort?

Our projects help students to look at things differently. At the city, at art and at each other.

  • Students get to know the history and heritage of Amersfoort at their own level
  • They develop historical awareness and learn to make connections between past and present
  • They discover their own cultural background and that of others
  • They learn to form their own opinion about art — beyond just ‘beautiful’ or ‘ugly’
  • They learn by doing: researching, observing, collaborating and discovering are central
  • The programmes replace regular lesson content and connect to the curriculum

In the museum: discovering together

During a museum lesson, students get actively involved. They examine objects from the collection and discover the stories behind them. Two experienced museum educators guide the process and challenge students to think for themselves and ask questions.

Beforehand, you prepare the class with teaching materials you receive from us. During the visit, parents help with the assignments. Afterwards, you continue at school with a closing lesson.

This creates a complete learning experience that stays with students.
